Detective Eric Fredgren’s tireless work to clear criminal cases and dispatcher Betsy Jones’ penchant for a strong work ethic have earned them top honors from the Pleasanton Police Department.
Fredgren, who joined the department in 1997 after being an officer in Redwood City, has been named Officer of the Year. He is credited with clearing a large amount of criminal cases, including 27 vandalism cases in the early part of the year. His work helped the department achieve a high Part 1 crime clearance rate (Part 1 crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft and arson.)
Fredgren has been assigned as the department’s Crimes Against Persons detective for 2010 and will serve as a primary liaison with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. A three-year member of the department’s Criminal Investigations Unit, Fredgren has also held positions such as a patrol officer, motorcycle traffic officer and field training officer.
Professional Employee of the Year was awarded to dispatcher Betsy Jones. Jones joined the department in 1990 and has been trained as a tactical dispatcher to provide assistance during SWAT call outs.
Jones is credited with having a strong work ethic, loyalty and a willingness to help wherever it is needed, even if it means starting a shift in the middle of the night. Jones often volunteers in department and Pleasanton Police Officers Association events.
Congratulations to both as you help make our community safe. Also my thanks and gratitude to all members of PPD who work to keep the “Vermin” at bay. And to the families who have their loved ones working today. Merry Christmas and “Stay Safe” out there!!!
Congratulations on the well deserved award Betsy. She is wonderful to deal with as she is a highly competent professional in her job as well as an asset to the community. She delivers top rate performance in a friendly service -oriented manner, kudos to her for being recognized.
These two folks, and about 100 of their friends, are more responsible for people moving to or staying in Pleasanton, than schools which graduate kids who can’t balance a checkbook or make change at McDonalds. Congratulations to Eric and Betsy.. and, shame on the Pleasanton School Board.

Not One Penny More
First of all, Detective Fredgren’s and dispatcher Betsy Jones deserve all the accolades they deserve. All our communittees have these tireless employees that go unsung.
But, you know, what really gripes me are people like “unclehomerr.” People like him are unbelievable. His comments, “schools which graduate kids who can’t balance a checkbook” Gee, unclehomerr, I guess you were perfect as a kid. Bet you NEVER misspelled a word or miss handled cash. You probably knew how to write a check at 16 or even 18. What the real problem is the parents lack of attention. If my child misspells a word or is unable to count out money then its MY failure. My daughter turned 16 the other day. My wife and I are going tomorrow to open a checking account and, shortly thereafter, learn about checking accounts once her canceled check for car insurance is returned by the bank.
Sorry folks that I am hot under the collar but I am really tired of people like “unclehomerr.”
And, as a resident of the Tri-Valley since 1956…Happy New Year.
Take a moment to think about your quality of life in the City of Pleasanton, and then consider the tireless efforts of police personnel like Eric and Betsy and how their work enhances your experience as a resident of this great city. unclehomerr, your original comments were insulting to the school teachers. I stand by my original comments.
If you think you can do better, then I recommend that you run for the school board.
