A popular, upscale downtown dining establishment was forced to shutter its doors temporarily due to water damage.

Mahalo Grille, located at 425 Main St., announced in an email to customers that the seafood restaurant suffered water damage after some recent rain storms and will remain closed through this busy holiday season. A reopening date has not yet been announced.

A call to the restaurant went straight to voicemail. Mahalo Grille was named the Best Seafood Restaurant in the 2009 Pleasanton Weekly Reader’s Choice contest.

  1. Hmmmm . . . . water damage, loss of revenue insurance, indefinite re-opening . . .. this place was great before the new owners bought it. They have no people skills at all and it is no longer a fun place to get a good meal, even though it never was authentic Hawaiian food.

  2. I spoke with one of the employees from Mahalo and was told all of the employees were let go. Not for awhile, but fired. There was no mention of water damage or closing just for repairs.
    I think they want to reinvent themselves.

  3. Reinvention would be a good thing. With new owners! As long as they are not claiming insurance money for “water damages” then there is no scam, just not very great business or employee ethics. Business must be really bad for them to just completely close over the holidays, guess not many people want to spend lots of money to go to a restaurant and then be treated as if they were unwanted guests. Even though I always loved the food the owners treated everyone as if we were not good enough to eat there. Most servers were nice, if not always very competent, and it was just not worth the price to be treated like that.
