Pleasanton neighborhoods celebrated National Night Out with hundreds setting up curbside barbecues and children’s games on blocked off streets and courts for an evening of good old-fashioned get-togethers.
Scores of officers and volunteers from the Pleasanton Police Department, which co-sponsors the National Night Out crime and drug prevention event here, went from neighborhood to neighborhood to join in the gatherings. Mayor Jennifer Hosterman, Councilman Jerry Thorne and City Manager Nelson Fialho also were at many of the neighborhood events.
The annual, nationwide event is held the first Tuesday in August to increase crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime activities, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and to inform criminals neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Firefighters and staff from the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department also participated.
An estimated 35 million people in more than 11,000 communities in all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world were expected to participate in this year’s 26th National Night Out that was sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.

this is the first I’ve heard of this…… and it’s tonight…. Perhaps Next year it will be publicized better.
This has been happening in Pleasanton neighborhoods for years now. Where have you been, Claudette?
It’s so sad that no one wanted to get involved in my neighborhood!! I think it’s time to move into a “family oriented” neighborhood.
Diane, There were actually two events in the Ruby Hill area. This is usually coordinated through Neighborhodd Watch and the Pleasanton PD. If you are interested, next year they can tell you if there is a party in your area.
