Two stakes races highlight action on the second Saturday of racing at the Alameda County Fair.
The biggest race of the day is the Juan Gonzalez Memorial Stakes, a 5-furlong test for 2-year-old fillies, as the 10th race on the 12-race card, scheduled for a 5:15 p.m. post.
Jerry Hollendorfer will send out Washington Bridge, the likely favorite for the race. Chad Schvaneveldt has the call and rode Washington Bridge to a 4-length win her debut, setting a 4-furlong track record at Golden Gate Fields.
Jeff Bonde, who swept the stakes on the opening weekend, sends out a pair of entries in Izzy Rules and Appealing Resume.
Izzy Rules, who is owned by George Schmitt, just crushed a maiden field here at Pleasanton on July 2, winning by seven lengths. Now the horse jumps into stakes field for her second start, but will retain the services of Omar Figueora for the start.
Appealing Resume is also a perfect one for one, winning 2-furlong sprint at Golden Gate Fields back in April and is owned by Phil Lebherz. Lebherz and Bonde are riding a 7-race winning streak with 2-year-olds.
Jules J is also an intriguing entry, running for trainer William E. Morey. Ridden by Frank Alvardo, Jules J figures to get a good stalking trip behind the front-running speed. The horse broke her maiden by a nose at Golden Gate Fields in May.
The other stakes race of the day takes place in the first race, when the Pleasanton Arabian Handicap takes place. The 5-furlong, Arabian stakes features By Golly Sand, who has won five straight races, including a stakes race at Stockton in the last week of June.
In addition to the live racing action Saturday, Russell Baze will be the guest at the Daily Handicapping Seminar, which takes place just outside the grandstand at 11:15 a.m. The seminars are hosted by track announcer Frank Mirahmadi and local handicapper Dennis Miller.
