Firefighters were able to put out a first-alarm fire that started in a home on Mason Street Wednesday morning that claimed the life of a family dog.
Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Chief Bill Cody said nobody was home at the time of the fire and that the house is now uninhabitable.
Neighbors reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the home at 11:45 a.m. Fire crews were on the scene at 11:49 a.m. and were able to extinguish it by 12:08 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
LPFD spokeswoman Sabina Imrie said the fire originated and was contained in a front room with extensive smoke damage in the other rooms. She estimated the loss to be worth $250,000.
Imrie also said that the homeowner was a coin and stamp collector, and that the firefighters were able to save the collection.

I saw this fire and it is truly a tragedy. But why did the Pleasanton Police arrive 5 minutes before the Fire Department ?

Because police cars are on patrol and probably in the vicinity already and fire trucks are in the house and waiting for calls.
Plus… police cars are much faster than fire trucks!
