Two people were seriously injured Saturday when their vehicle struck and killed a horse on a roadway near Livermore in unincorporated Alameda County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers responded to Livermore Avenue near Concannon Boulevard south of Livermore just after 1 a.m., where a Ford pickup truck collided with at least one horse that had wandered on to the rural road, CHP Officer Marc Johnston said.

Both of the truck’s occupants were airlifted by medical helicopter to an area hospital, one of them suffering major injuries, Johnston said.
