Coroner IDs Livermore man killed in high-speed crash near I-580

Fatal collision occurred the night of May 6

Authorities have confirmed the identity of the young man from Livermore who died after reportedly speeding through a red light and then hitting two other cars and a traffic pole near an Interstate 580 interchange in town earlier this month.

The decedent was 23-year-old Christian Andres Lopez, according to the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred after 9 p.m. on May 6 at the intersection of North Livermore Avenue and I-580.

The driver of a 2006 Acura RL -- later identified as Lopez -- was traveling at a high speed southbound on North Livermore Avenue and ran a red light at the intersection while two other cars from the oncoming direction were attempting to make a protected left turn onto the freeway, according to the CHP.

The Acura struck both cars and smashed into a traffic pole, leading to lethal injuries for Lopez, according to authorities. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the other vehicles were examined medically but declined to be taken to the hospital, the CHP said.
