The city of Pleasanton is accepting nominations for a forthcoming vacancy on the Planning Commission, with the deadline to apply for the seat arriving next Wednesday (Dec. 16).
The four-year appointment will fill the position currently held by Planning Commissioner Jack Balch, who was elected to the City Council in the Nov. 3 election and will be sworn into office on Tuesday.
Interviewing the Planning Commission applicants and making a recommendation to the full council will be one of the first major tasks as mayor for Karla Brown, who will ascend from councilwoman to mayor at Tuesday's oath-of-office ceremony.
The city website describes the duties and responsibilities of the Planning Commission as to "prepare, adopt and administer the City's General Plan and specific plans; prepare recommendations to the City Council regarding amendments to the City's zoning ordinance; review and advise the City Council regarding subdivision maps; and investigate, hear and determine use permits, specified variances, permits and zoning ordinances, disputes and controversies."
Applications can be accessed on the city website, by selecting the Planning Commission information page via this link.
Open only to residents of the city of Pleasanton, applications are due by Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 16). Brown will conduct interviews the week of Jan. 4 and make a final selection to be ratified by the full council at the January council meeting, according to city staff.
The commission term will begin on Jan. 19 and run until January 2025.
