Head-on collision leaves several injured on Highway 84

Several people were injured Sunday night in a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Highway 84 in Niles Canyon east of Fremont, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash, at Highway 84 and Palomares Road about halfway between Mission Boulevard and Sunol, was reported at 7:29 p.m. Sunday. The vehicles involved were a Toyota Camry and a Ford SUV. There were several children in both vehicles, the CHP said.

As of 9 p.m. Sunday, Highway 84 was still closed between Mission Boulevard in Fremont and Palomares Road, but is expected to reopen before 9:30 p.m., Fremont police said.

More information about the accident and the victims was not immediately available.
