Pleasanton Library needs 'ambassadors' to visit schools

Training starts Tuesday for Booklegger program

The Pleasanton library is starting its annual Booklegger training series this Tuesday (Sept. 17) for those who wish to join the popular program to promote reading for fun and lifelong library use.

Booklegger volunteers go into elementary and middle schools throughout Pleasanton to make presentations to interest students in reading and using the library. The program has been running for 30 years.

"Bookleggers are our library ambassadors," said children's librarian Chris Spitzel. "They extend our reach dramatically, encouraging students to discover new books and informing them about library services."

The training takes place this year from 9:15-11:45 a.m. for eight weeks, and volunteers are asked to commit to visiting six to 12 classrooms per semester for at least one school year.
