Pleasanton parenting forum set for this weekend

Bestselling author is keynote for third annual conference

Pleasanton city and education leaders are joining together to present their third annual parenting forum this weekend at Harvest Park Middle School.

Part of the city's ongoing Community Education Series, the free forum on Feb. 9 will feature a keynote address by Wendy Mogel, Ph.D., who is a practicing clinical psychologist, New York Times bestselling author and international public speaker.

Organizers said Mogel, author of "The Blessing of a Skinned Knee," "The Blessing of a B Minus" and "Voice Lessons for Parents," will aim to "unravel the paradox of good-intentioned devoted parenting gone astray."

Lessons in Mogel's speech and the ensuing breakout sessions will focus on topics such as "how hyper-parenting and perfectionism undermine children's intrinsic motivation, resilience and pride in their achievements" as well as how parents and guardians can "adopt a kinder, firmer and ultimately more effective approach to the stress of daily family life."

The parenting forum is set for 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 9 at Harvest Park, 4900 Valley Ave. It is offered by the city in partnership with the Pleasanton Unified School District, Pleasanton Partnerships in Education Foundation and the Pleasanton PTA Council.
