Pleasanton Downtown Association decided to cancel its annual fundraising Spirit & Sweater Stroll, originally scheduled for Saturday night, for safety reasons due to the unhealthy air quality persistent throughout the Bay Area.
PDA officials expressed disappointment at needing to call off the event, which is seen as the association’s holiday season kick-off ahead of Small Business Saturday and the Holiday Open House, but they added that conditions were too unsafe as smoke from the devastating Camp Fire in Butte County continues to linger here.
“The health and safety of our event attendees is of utmost concern and the current air conditions provide a risk that we are not willing to take,” PDA officials said in a post on their website Friday afternoon announcing the cancelation. “We send our deepest condolences to everyone affected by these terrible fires, and thank you for the support of this difficult decision.”
Residents who already purchased tickets can request a refund through Wednesday by emailing email@example.com -- include the name of the person who bought the tickets and the number of tickets purchased. Refunds would be processed as quickly as possible, PDA officials said.
They also encouraged residents to recognize that the Spirit & Sweater Stroll is usually a key fundraising event for the organization.
“This event is a very important fundraiser for our Downtown Association and our efforts to provide economic vitality to our wonderful downtown. Anyone who would like to forgo a refund and consider your ticket purchase as a donation to the downtown, we truly appreciate your support,” PDA officials said.
