Pleasanton: Haugen scholarship deadline Nov. 12

The Community of Character Collaborative invites high school seniors in Pleasanton to apply for the annual Juanita Haugen Memorial Scholarship.

Longtime Pleasanton Unified School District board member Juanita Haugen inspired the Pleasanton Community of Character initiative. In her honor, annual $1,000 scholarships recognize students who have strong records of civic engagement and have demonstrated exceptional character, exhibiting Compassion, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Self-Discipline.

An award will be presented to a student in each of Pleasanton's three high schools. Applications are being taken for Foothill and Amador Valley high school students, due Nov. 12. Village High School awards will be presented at a later date.

Applications and guidelines are available online at www.CommunityofCharacter.org. Selections will be announced in late November.
