Structures inspire art at Harrington Gallery

'Underpinnings' exhibit opens downtown Aug. 15

"Cities and Structure, Side 1" by Monika Meler, "Balboa Park" by Sarah Newton, and "Cascading Light" by Anne Subercaseaux (each shown at right) are part of "Underpinnings," an exhibit opening at the Harrington Gallery at the Firehouse Arts Center.

The show explores the skeletal structure of bridges, freeways, architecture and art itself with works by five artists, also including Kathleen Crocetti and Deborah Sibony.

The exhibit kicks off with a public reception from 7-9 p.m. this Thursday and runs through Sept. 15. A youth class, "Buildings & Bridges," will take place Sept. 13 in conjunction with the exhibit; register beginning Aug. 15 at
