Man accused of recording customer inside Pleasanton store fitting room

Arrestee allegedly found with footage of victim

A 45-year-old San Lorenzo man was arrested at Stoneridge Shopping Center for allegedly hiding a camera inside a store fitting room and recording a woman trying on clothes inside.

Pleasanton police are working to investigate whether Juan Jose Martinez-Leyva is tied to any other peeping incidents in local stores, according to Sgt. Aaron Fountain.

The incident unfolded around 4:10 p.m. Saturday, when police received a report of a man illegally recording inside a fitting room at Hollister Company on the lower level of the mall, Fountain said.

A camera was found concealed on the floor in the fitting room and recording a customer while she tried on clothing, according to Fountain. Store employees then allegedly saw Martinez-Leyva leaving a nearby fitting room and detained him.

The sergeant alleged Martinez-Leyva was positively identified as the man in the fitting room and was found in possession of recording devices containing footage of the victim. He was placed under citizen's arrest and later booked by police into the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on suspicion of criminal invasion of privacy.

"At this time, it is unknown if there are any additional victims or locations of occurrence," Fountain said, adding that anyone with information related to the case should call police at 931-5100.
