LPFD fire captain earns Bronze Star Medal

Capt. Atkinson honored for service while deployed as Green Beret in Afghanistan

Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Capt. Ken Atkinson was recently awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his meritorious service and dedication as a U.S. Army Green Beret deployed in Afghanistan last year.

Atkinson, a 22-year veteran of LPFD, completed the United States Army Special Forces qualification course, language training and other specialized training before being deployed to a six-month combat mission last year.

Atkinson joined the LPFD in 1996 and was promoted to captain in 2007. He remains an active U.S. Army National Guard soldier and is continuing to prepare for future deployments, according to LPFD.
