Chorale fundraiser presents concert pianist

Daniel Glover to play masterpieces by French composers

Valley Concert Chorale's fundraiser this month will offer "A Tribute to French Composers," performed by concert pianist Daniel Glover, who has been the group's accompanist since 1998.

Glover, whose 1992 recital in Carnegie Hall was the result of winning the Artist's International Competition, has performed in 42 states and 25 countries. A German newspaper described him as having "extraordinary technique, analytical understanding and determined phrasing from the first to the last bar."

The concert will include a selection of masterpieces devoted to French piano music, with a special emphasis on Debussy in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the composer's death. The program will begin with a harpsichord "Suite in E minor" by Jean-Philippe Rameau. Then Debussy will be represented by his three-movement "Suite Pour le Piano."

The second half of the concert will feature works that focus on musical representations of the wind by Charles-Valentin Alkan, Olivier Messiaen and Debussy. The concluding three works by Debussy and Saint-Saens were inspired by their trips to Italy and Africa.

Glover will also share his knowledge of each composer's work and style, breaking down the components of the music for the audience.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, at First Presbyterian Church, 2020 Fifth St. in Livermore. Tickets are $25. Call 866-4003; email info@valleyconcertchorale.org; or go to www.valleyconcertchorale.org.
