Bay East honors best in local real estate with year-end awards

McKereghan named Realtor of the Year; Fracisco lauded for distinguished service

The Pleasanton-based Bay East Association of Realtors recognized the best of the best in local real estate in handing out its 2017 awards during its Inaugural Gala last month.

The event featured East Bay real estate professionals taking home awards for Realtor of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Affiliate of the Year, Outstanding Leader Award, Good Neighbor Award and John Deadrich Distinguished Service Award.

"The winners demonstrated high ethical standards and professionalism, active community involvement and a high level of service to the real estate profession," Bay East officials said in announcing the recipients.

The 2018 Bay East Inaugural Gala, held Jan. 13 at Casa Real in Pleasanton, also saw the local trade association install its leadership team for this year.

Realtor of the Year

Alameda's Anne McKereghan took home the award for Realtor of the Year, with officials lauding her high level of integrity and commitment to Bay East and the real estate profession.

A Realtor since 2003, McKereghan served on the Alameda Association of Realtors Board of Directors and as its president before the organization merged with Bay East. She also has served on the Bay East board.

She is actively involved in advocating for home ownership and private property rights, officials said. Her community service also includes being appointed to the Alameda Unified School District Board of Trustees last year and leadership experience with the Alameda Education Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club.

Rookie of the Year

Sofyan Karim with ReMax Active Realty in Fremont received the Rookie of the Year Award.

Karim began attending Bay East events and committee meetings soon after entering the profession, officials said. He joined the Bay East Young Professional Network and Local Government Relations committees and participated in Kids Against Hunger pack-outs in Pleasanton and at the Alameda County Food Bank.

Affiliate of the Year

Jennifer Bourque with Guild Mortgage was honored as Affiliate of the Year Award, which recognizes an affiliate member for their efforts to contribute time, money and resources to support the real estate profession.

Bourque was involved in several fundraising events with the Real Estate Alliance of Livermore. As chair of the Bay East Foundation Fundraising Committee, she organized the Cheers to The Future event, which raised more than $19,000 for the foundation's scholarship fund.

Outstanding Leader Award

Jennifer Branchini received the Outstanding Leader Award, which honors a Bay East past-president who continues to pursue the vision of excellence in the name of the association.

Her service to Bay East includes serving as board president in 2014, helping create the Bay East Young Professional Network and volunteering with the committees on Member Benefits, Leadership Evaluation, Investment and Leadership Development. She was also named Bay East's Realtor of the Year in 2010.

Branchini's service extends to the state and national levels as well. She is vice chair of the California Association of Realtors Legislative Committee, sits on several other CAR committees and serves on the National Association of Realtors Board of Directors.

Good Neighbor Award

Rachna Rajan, of Berkshire Hathaway Drysdale Properties in Castro Valley, received the 2017 Good Neighbor Award.

Working with the Alameda County Food Bank, Rajan distributes food bags to families in the neighborhood she "farms" and encourages her fellow agents do the same in their respective farms. During the past 13 years, she has collected more than 9,500 pounds of food for the food bank, officials said.

John Deadrich Distinguished Service Award

Mike Fracisco earned the 2017 John A. Deadrich Distinguished Service Award.

Named in honor of the association's first president and founder, the award is given to a Bay East member who exemplifies the self-sacrifice, vision and accomplishments of the greatest leaders who have shaped the real estate profession, officials said.

Fracisco's involvement started after joining Bay East in 2003. He was recognized as the 2004 Rookie of the Year for his contributions to the Livermore and Valley marketing groups and the Housing for All Committee helping raise funds for the Livermore Habitat for Humanity project.

He was elected to the Bay East board in 2007 and served as president in 2015.

Last year, Fracisco chaired the Property Management Advisory and Leadership Evaluating and Selection committees, in addition to serving on the Investment Advisory Committee. He has also served in leadership positions with the California Association of Realtors.
