Head-on collision closes Highway 84 south of Pleasanton

Both directions reopen around noon after two-hour shutdown

A serious head-on crash near Sunol caused emergency responders to close Highway 84 for two hours on Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle crash occurred around 10:15 a.m. on Highway 84/Vallecitos Road at Little Valley Road, between Ruby Hill and Interstate 680 in Sunol, according to CHP Officer Tyler Hahn.

The driver of a westbound Mercedes sedan crossed over the double-yellow lines for unknown reasons and collided with an oncoming Chevrolet truck, causing the Mercedes to roll over, according to Hahn.

The Mercedes driver was transported to a hospital with significant facial injuries while the truck driver was taken to a hospital with a complaint of pain, according to Hahn. Drugs and alcohol are not considered factors.

Neither driver was identified.

Both directions of Highway 84 reopened just after 12:15 p.m. Thursday.
