San Ramon Parks & Community Services is gearing up for the annual Bah Humbug run/walk this Saturday.

The 5K is open to runners and walkers of all levels, and isn’t just a race — it’s a costume contest, for those who want to arrive in holiday-themed garb.

The “race route” will wind through the streets of San Ramon, timed by a chip worn by each athlete.

Check-in and race day registration will open at 7:30 a.m. at the San Ramon Community Center at Central Park (12501 Alcosta Blvd.), which is also where the start and finish line is located. Both the run and the walk will begin at 9 a.m.

The entry fee is $45 per participant. Online registration is now closed, but interested participants can still sign up on race day.

Those who pre-registered can pick up their bib number and commemorative long-sleeve shirt at the new San Ramon Sports Basement at 1041 Market Place on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. On that day, the store will be offering a 20% discount to those taking part in the early packet pick-up.

All proceeds go back into the San Ramon Parks & Community Services programs.

On race day, snacks and beverages will be on-hand, and finishers will receive an official Bah Humbug ornament. Participants are also asked to bring canned food for donation to the Contra Costa Food Bank.

And there will be awards of all sorts. Medals will go to the top male and female finishers in each age category, and, for the running fanatics out there, the Mayor’s Crown will be awarded for the lowest combined times for the 2017 Bah Humbug run and the 2018 Run San Ramon next July.

Costume awards will also be given to the winners of three categories: Most Grinch-Like, Holiday Spirit and Group Theme.

Participants who post about the event on social media are encouraged to use the official hashtag #SRBahhumbug.
