Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

This week marked the end of the 1st Wednesdays series this summer in Pleasanton. The theme of the event was Pooch Parade — as the name entails, it was a celebration and amalgamation of dogs and their owners.

In conjunction to marching in the parade, dog owners came from all over the Tri-valley area to enter their dogs to compete in categories such as Best Costume, Best Trick, Best Team and more.

At 7 p.m., the Pooch Parade commenced with dogs and their owners marching down Main Street — the dogs varying in size, color and breed. After the parade, the results of the categories were announced on the stage at Lions Wayside Park and the event ended at sunset.

  1. It’s animal abuse with it being so hot and having these adorable doggie walk on the hot pavement. I chose to stay home with my dog in a nice cool house. no hot pavement for my dog.

  2. Glad no more dogs have to suffer the hot pavement.
I’d like to see even one person who participated come forward and tell us why they think their dog enjoyed the extremely hot pavement.
Next time you want to walk your dog on a very hot day do it in your bare feet and see how you like it.

  3. On a 95` day between 2-4pm the temperature of a cement or asphalt street is between 141-162`
Now convince me that’s comfortable for a dogs feet.

  4. The parade was after 7 pm, the concrete was no longer too hot and none of the dogs exhibited any duress for being out. A nice breeze was blowing and the event was not in any way animal abuse, come on really!

  5. @Stacey-the temperature was still well over 80 degrees at 7pm. asphalt and concrete stays hotter then air temp. the breeze that you claims there was doesn’t help with the hot asphalt. It was still too hot at 8pm for me to take my dogs out for a walk. why don’t you try walking barefoot on the asphalt next time. then give us your two cents worth. obviously you don’t have dogs.
