The force has gained a familiar name as an ally in Pleasanton.
This week, the Pleasanton Police Department introduced Vader, the latest addition to its K-9 program. A 20-month-old Belgium Malinois, Vader is the 18th police dog for the city of Pleasanton.
The department (jokingly) assures that Vader will not stray to the dark side like his namesake; rather, he will work alongside his handler, Officer Michael Wilson, to look for missing people, apprehend criminals and find contraband.
“It’s awesome to know that I have a partner right here in the car with me,” Wilson said.
When Vader isn’t on the job, he lives with Wilson and his family and enjoys long walks and watching the occasional “Star Wars” movie.
