Mountain lion or bobcat sighted in Golden Eagle Estates neighborhood

Homeowner spots animal too close too close for comfort

Smita Nadgir sent this photo she snapped Tuesday morning near her home on Foothill Road of what she believed was a mountain lion roaming in her Golden Eagle Estates neighborhood in Pleasanton.

Nadgir said she immediately notified police, but as of three hours later when she sent the photo to the Pleasanton Weekly, no police had responded.

In her email to the Weekly, she urged other parents to play it safe.

"With children out of school and playing outside, they need to be aware that there's a mountain lion nearby," she wrote in an email.

The tail looks like a bobcat tail. I could be wrong, I'm not an expert.

Agree with Laverne, that is a bobcat not a mountain lion. The tail is the giveaway as is the ears.

That is smaller than the outdoor house cats in my neighborhood. Not a mountain lion. I don't think it's a bobcat either. Domesticus Birdkillious.

"near her home"

We are encroaching on the animals. They have no where else to go. Build structures and the animals will be around.

The picture is definitely not of a Mountain Lion as can be seen by the ears and tail. PW should have shown the photo to a local wildlife expert before running this story.

PW should have shown the photo to a local wildlife expert before running this story....Of course they should have!!!
And now they should inform people that this is NOT a mountain lion!

That's a bobcat.

PW needs to be a little careful in how they report an event like this.

I've seen a similar looking "cat", I believe this is a bobcat at St Elizabeth Seton church. There's a small field behind the parking lot close to the exit that a cat similar to this one was just sitting in. It was small, just a bit larger than your average housecat.

What is wrong with you people...so quick to judge !! better to be alerted to a situation or a possible danger to anyone's children playing outdoors. Let's be a little bit more considerate of some one who is being observant
and sounding a potential alarm. Be thankful she cares what's going on in her neighborhood instead of sticking her head in the ground.
I personally Thank the lady for caring.

Tom,

The point is not that the resident thought it was a Mountain Lion - it wasn't. The point is that whomever wrote/posted the article didn't do an ounce of research to confirm what kind of animal was in the picture.

We saw the same type of animal a few weeks ago at the Marilyn Murphy Kane trail. This past week while at the same trail, someone told us they saw a mountain lion.

Regardless of what these animals are, I too, am thankful for the person stepping up to share what she saw.

We lived in Golden Eagle Estates for many years and saw Bobcats more than a few times, they don't spook easily, can give a "mean" stare ... never had any problems with them

To Murphy Kane Trails....Thank God there's another human being on this planet ! Why is that some of these folks don't find the way of being a little kinder and less judge mental ? They are ready to bite your hand off.
They must be awfully miserable down deep. Thanks for agreeing with me.

Yes I would say Bobcat too. FYI we had a neighbor who would let their geriatric cat out on a 2nd floor balcony to sleep at night. A Bobcat made it up to the balcony and killed their cat. So do beware if you have pets around and please make your cats indoor pets.
