Sport Chalet announced Saturday that it is closing all of its stores and has stopped selling goods online.

The store’s retail outlet and scuba diving training center are located at 4555 Rosewood Dr., next to Kohl’s Department Store in the Metro 580 shopping center.

“While our online store is no longer available, all Sport Chalet stores will remain open for several weeks, offering customers the opportunity to use their remaining rewards and gift cards, and to take advantage of great sales,” the chain announced on its website.

Sport Chalet has begun the process of closing all of its stores, including the 40 it has in California, and has stopped selling merchandise online.

“While our online store is no longer available, all Sport Chalet stores will remain open for several weeks, offering customers the opportunity to use their remaining rewards and gift cards, and to take advantage of great sales,” the website states.

The store’s statement adds:

“Sport Chalet gift cards, rewards certificates and store credits will be honored in Sport Chalet stores through April 29. Customers who are unable to visit us before this date are invited to transfer gift card balances to a gift card from one of our sister stores, Eastern Mountain Sports or Bob’s Stores through July 29. To transfer your balance, please contact customer service at (888) 801-9162 and an agent will assist you.

“We also ask that you pick up any equipment that has been left in one of our stores for repair no later than April 29 and ask you to return Sport Chalet rental equipment before this date.

“Thank you for your loyalty over the years. We hope to see you at our store closing sales.”

  1. I hope they put in an indoor swimming pool. There is already a scuba pool there. It would be nice to be able to swim year round. Dublin has 2 indoor pools and Livermore has at least 1 that I know of. Pleasanton has been lagging behind our Tri-Valley neighbors for too long!

  2. Vinelander……we don’t get any of the “good stuff”” because pf Matt Sullivan, Karla Brown and all of their non-compromising NIMBY followers.

  3. I want everything in my back yard. It would be nice if I could walk to all of the “good stuff”. Even Costco. Can you imagine watching the Warriors and during halftime walk out the back door and get a $1.50 hot dog.

  4. Perfect spot for a trader joes, get out of that ratty strip mall with the worst parking in Pleasanton and move up to a more desirable location, getting tired of driving to Livermore !!

  5. Shame about the store closing. I thought they were a really nice sporting goods store, and I always got pretty good service. Somehow, Big 5 just keeps rolling on, and on, and on..

  6. Sport Chalet was too expensive. I went yesterday to burn a gift card, and it didn’t go very far.

Big 5 keeps “rolling on” because though it has far less selection, what it does have costs far less than Sport Chalet, Sports Authority, or Dick’s Sporting Goods. I imagine the fact that they sell guns and ammo, and the others don’t, helps their bottom line significantly.

  7. Would be nice to see Traders Joe’s there, but I doubt it’s feasible: the square footage is too large and Walmart would never let a competitor move in so close. Well, I am still crossing my fingers for an indoor pool or an ice skating rink!

  8. The old CVS/Longs location in Rose Pavilion would be ideal for a Trader Joes. I do not even go to the one in Pleasanton, the parking is horrendous.

  9. A community center much like Silliman Center in Newark would be a fantastic conversion of that space.

Indoor water park, fitness area, gym and classrooms would be a huge win for the community.

If you have a family and looking for things to do in the winter, give Silliman a try, my kids always love going there.

  10. Maybe try sneaking in a movie theater like the one we used to have and don’t tell regal cinema about it so we can enjoy it for awhile before they buy it and close it down again!!

  11. So far we have heard the following suggestions: Costco, Trader Joes, Indoor Swimming Pool, Ice Rink, Whole Foods, Silliman Center. Maybe we should designate that area as an “Economic Zone” and be proactive with town hall meetings as to what we WANT in there.
