Palma sets new Dons' record in shot put

Foothill swimming, golf earn early-season wins

Tori Palma of the Amador Valley girls track and field team is on her game early in the season, and she set a new team record with a shot put mark of 39 feet, 3.75 inches on March 12.

Palma's throw is currently in the top 20 in California this season, and it eclipsed the previous team mark that stood for 27 years.

Swimming

Last week was an exciting one for the Foothill swim team, as the team broke three long-standing records.

The 200 medley relay team of Jonah Cooper, Jonathan Mui, Joe Schafer and Aaron Li broke a record set in 2003 by two seconds. Cooper, a freshman, also broke the 100 butterfly record set in 2006 by one second, and then came back and set the record in the 100 backstroke, a record set in 2010, by 2.5 seconds.

All four Foothill teams -- boys and girls varsity and junior varsity -- easily secured wins over Livermore, moving the boys to 3-0 and the girls to 2-1 on the season.

The following swimmers took first-place finishes for the Falcons.

Varsity boys: 200 medley relay (Nick Skinner, Mui, Schafer and Li), Calvin Chui (200 free and 100 fly), Mui (200 IM and 100 breast), Calvin David (50 and 100 free), Rob Harries (diving), Skinner (500 free); 200 free relay (Schafer, Jeff Tang, Chui and David), Ben Song (100 back) and 400 free relay (Li, Skinner, Mui and David).

Last Saturday at the Hawk Invitational Meet, the varsity girls took first out of 17 teams. To complete the sweep, the varsity boys were first out of 16 teams. Both JV teams placed second out of eight teams.

Earning first-place finishes for the Falcons were the JV girls 200 free relay, varsity boys 200 free relay, Haley Isaacs (JV 100 breast and 50 free), Alyson Isaacs (JV 100 free and 100 back), Jonathan Mui (varsity 100 breast) and Maddie David (varsity 500 free).
