Online petition pushes to keep Conde as Hart Middle School's principal

Principal to be reassigned due to personnel issue

An online petition urging the Pleasanton school district to stop the reassignment of Terry Conde from her role as principal of Hart Middle has drawn attention to her pending move.

The petition, launched Saturday, had just over 100 signatures as of Monday afternoon. Parents and teachers posted messages lauding Conde's term as principal.

"Her 'student's first' mentality is a rare treasure among school administrators and something our school should not lose," the petition reads. "She is always available and willing to hear what a student needs to thrive and succeed. And most importantly, she is unapologetic for putting our kids first."

The school board voted Feb. 23 in closed session to approve her reassignment for unspecified personnel reasons. A timeline hadn't been announced for her removal and replacement as of Monday, and district spokesman Patrick Gannon said he cannot comment on specific personnel matters due to privacy laws.

"In consultation with cabinet members, I am responsible for managing and maximizing talent," interim superintendent Jim Hansen said in a statement about reassignments in general. "Our goal is to place staff in roles that have the most positive impact for the individual and for the district as a whole. Our current site administrator re-assignments are about optimizing talent."

Conde said she could not comment on her reassignment.

We love Mrs Conde. My kids seemed to get all of the rotten apples in their schedules and Mrs C intervened appropriately. Not sure we would have survived middle school without her. Mrs C is NOT the problem. In our 'community of character' it would be nice to see accountability and integrity actually upheld. Shame on the board for caving to the union.

What deal did union president Clarke cut to get rid of her nemesis, Conde? As a teacher at Hart she made several complaints and grievances, including one against Board President Hintzke that went nowhere. Suddenly after a change in superintendent they move her out? What is the real story?

The trustees are in a tough spot. The balance of accountability is askew in our district. "Soft" leadership and a far left-leaning prior administration (before Hansen) has allowed the Union to take control. If a trustee disagrees with the teacher's Union, they are accused of being against the kids. If an administrator doesn't kiss the union's ring, they are villified. If a principal tries to hold a teacher accountable, the bully Union gets them fired or moved.

Janice Clark, Union president, is the real bad apple. She is not a partner with our administration and board. She's a broken record: Teachers are underpaid (so not true), we're so overworked (uh... Summers off??), etc. She's actually an excellent Union rep! And a horrible partner for PUSD and parents.

Or maybe Conde is just not a good administrator. It's too bad more people don't think that's a possibility.
