Man who died in fiery crash near Pleasanton identified

David Garcia, of Berkeley, died on scene

A driver who died last week after his vehicle collided with another vehicle and caught fire near Pleasanton has been identified as 20-year-old David Garcia of Berkeley, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.

The crash was first reported at 1:22 p.m. Wednesday on Stanley Boulevard between Valley and Isabel avenues in unincorporated Alameda County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Garcia was driving west in a Honda sedan on Stanley Boulevard when he attempted to make a U-turn, turning into the path of a Jetta traveling on the road's eastbound side, CHP officials said.

The cars collided and the Honda burst into flames with Garcia trapped inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver in the Jetta was not injured in the crash, according to the CHP.
