Fatal crash closes Stanley Boulevard after car bursts into flames

Driver killed after making U-turn, slamming into another vehicle

A man was killed in a fiery collision on Stanley Boulevard near Shadow Cliffs Regional Park Wednesday afternoon when his car burst into flames after making a U-turn and slamming into another vehicle.

The California Highway Patrol said the accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. when the motorist traveling in a Honda in the westbound lanes of the four-lane thoroughfare turned into the path of an eastbound Volkswagen.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was trapped inside the car when it caught fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen was reportedly not injured.

Stanley Boulevard was closed in both directions until 4:21 p.m.
