Middle schoolers star at cross country meet

300 compete in Tri-Valley Athletic League championship

More than 300 cross country runners from nine Tri-Valley middle schools took part in the Tri-Valley Athletic League Championship Meet last week at Pleasanton Middle School.

Four age groups competed on the 1.7-mile course Oct. 14, according to Pleasanton Middle School coach Ann Cartwright.

Winning teams were Harvest Park sixth-grade girls, Mendenhall (Livermore) sixth-grade boys, Hart seventh/eighth-grade girls and Fallon (Dublin) seventh/eighth-grade boys.

The top runners for the sixth-grade girls race were Harvest Park's Maddie Benson, Ella McCarthy, Leila Lyions and Brooke Simpson and Miya Yu of Livermore's East Avenue.

Top sixth-grade boys race were Nadeem Yassin (Mendenhall), Dillon Maheshwari (East Avenue), Vincent Giannini (Fallon), Daniel Thinfin (Mendenhall) and Tyler Eaton (Mendenhall).

The top finishers for seventh/eighth girls were Hope Bergmark (Harvest Park), Hailey Hayes (Hart), Aditi Jagannathan (Fallon), Paula Leigh (Mendenhall) and Taylor Trafton (Mendenhall).

Best-finishing seventh/eighth boys were Aiden McCarthy (Harvest Park), Darren Furtado (Fallon), Rohan Fonseka (Fallon), Chris Middleton-Pearson (Fallon) and Aiden DeMello (Mendenhall).
