Installation service at 2 p.m. today for new pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church

Congregation to welcome Heidi Hester, Evangelical Lutheran Church minister

An installation service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday for the Rev. Heidi Hester as the new pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pleasanton.

She is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

A graduate of Pacific Lutheran University in Wash., she has held a number of positions in Lutheran ministries. Prior to relocating to Pleasanton, she served as a bishop's assistant at the ELCA Pacifica Synod in Santa Ana

A native of Montana, she earned a bachelor's degree in Communications and Public Relations from the Tacoma college and then served for seven years as director of Youth and Family Ministries at Silverdale Lutheran and Trinity Lutheran churches, both in Washington state.

Later, she embarked on a business career, working as an executive assistant for an attorney at CBS, Inc. in the network's legal department. Then in 1999, motivated to become a Lutheran minister, she enrolled at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley. While at the seminary she interned at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in San Mateo and in Kailua, Hawaii, graduating from the seminary in 2003 and bing ordained the same year.

She also served as pastor of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Whittier for seven years before joining the bishop's staff in 2009.
