Driver inured after car crashes into Castro Valley eye clinic

Accident damages Primary Eyecare Optometrics building

A 55-year-old woman suffered major injuries Friday morning when she crashed her car into a Castro Valley eye clinic.

According to the California Highway Patrol. the accident happened when around 7:05 a.m. when the woman, driving a 2011 Toyota Camry south on Lake Chabot Road, at Castro Valley Boulevard, struck a signal pole. The crash caused the vehicle to travel across the boulevard, overturn, and strike the eye clinic building.

The crash caused damage to the front of the building, located at 2687 Castro Valley Blvd. The building houses Primary Eyecare Optometrics.

When CHP officers arrived, officers found the woman trapped inside the upside-down vehicle.

Once officers were able to extract the victim from the vehicle, emergency crews transported her to Eden Medical Center.No other persons or vehicles were involved in the crash.Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the crash, CHP

officials said.

PG&E officials responded to the scene as well, but determined the building's gas and electric utilities had not been impacted.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, CHP officials said.
