A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. this afternoon for Katheryn “Kathy” Baker, chief financial officer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory who was killed Sept. 22 when a car crashed into a Livermore gym.

The service will be held in the Robert Livermore Community Center, 4444 East Ave. in Livermore. Baker, a 49-year-old Livermore resident, was the chief financial officer at the Livermore Lab.

Baker, who was 49, “was a very special person and cherished by the people she worked with,” laboratory spokeswoman Lynda Seaver said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.”

Baker died after a Livermore woman, 80, apparently confused the gas and brake pedals and sent her car crashing forward into ValleyCare’s LifeStylesRx athletic facility at 1119 E. Stanley Blvd.at 6:26 a.m., striking Mrs. Baker and injuring five others.
