Hundreds of young Pleasanton soccer players will parade down Main Street starting at 7:30 this morning, marking the starts of the fall season for girls and boys teams.
Today is the opening of games among the Ballistic United Soccer Club for boys and the Pleasanton RAGE for girls.
The parade route begins on Main Street, turns onto West Angela Street and then proceeds back up Peters Avenue to the staging area.
Stretches of several downtown streets will be blocked off to vehicular traffic during the morning event, with parking allowed only in legal parking spaces on adjoining streets. Organizers advised participants and residents to anticipate heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic around downtown.
The soccer teams will be staged by age group and club from St. Mary and Main streets and along Peters Avenue at 7 a.m. Officials will conduct the final check at 7:15 a.m. to make sure teams are assembled and ready to start the procession.
The parade will begin at 7:30 a.m. sharp at the intersection of St. Mary and Main streets.
Organizers recommend attendees plan plenty of time to drive to downtown, find parking and walk to the staging area. They also issued a reminder that teams cannot throw anything from to the crowds, including candy, during the parade.
St. Mary, Main and West Angela streets, Peters Avenue and cross-streets in between will be barricaded, prohibiting car traffic and parking for the event.
