My name is Pastor Nancy Feniuk Nelson. I am the Bishop's Associate for the Sierra Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. I am writing to insist this article be removed. The author did not do any research on this before going to print. In the ELCA, we do not "name" anyone to anything. We identify a candidate and the congregation has the opportunity to vote on that candidate. This coming Sunday is THE VOTE ON WHETHER OR NOT TO CALL THIS PASTOR and this article undermines the integrity of that process by suggesting it has already occurred. It has not. The congregation will make this choice. I'm sure they will let you know when it is the appropriate time to announce and celebrate the new pastor.
