College gala raises $133,000 for Las Positas students

Proceeds go for scholarships, project grants

Las Positas College's recent 12th Annual "Best of the Best" gala raised $133,000 for the benefit of the college campus community.

The event featured a unique format where students were the stars of the evening with guests supporting them through on-line and silent auction components.

As result of the format, the cost of holding the event was low with contributions going mainly to underwrite scholarships and to provide project grants.

Guests sampled hors d'oeuvres provided by 10 Tri-Valley restaurants, enjoyed wine courtesy of 14 Livermore Valley wineries and beer from a local craft beer brewer.

Entertainment for the evening was a showcase of pieces from the college's yearly musical, Cabaret, as well as performances by the college jazz ensemble, dance groups and award-winning speech teams.

"Our Foundation is especially grateful to the 18 Tri-Valley event sponsors," said Lynn Seppala, chairman of the Las Positas College Foundation. "We cannot thank these community-focused organizations enough for their support."

"Best of the Best" platinum level sponsors were Lawrence Livermore National Security, Sandia National Laboratories and Lockheed Martin.

Other sponsors included the Pleasanton Weekly, Topcon, Shea Homes, Safeway, Stanford Health Care, Kaiser Permanente, UC Merced, Chevron and PG&E.

Also sponsoring the event were Fremont Bank, Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Sensiba San Filippo, Livingston Family, The Independent, Comcast and KKIQ.

A number of local restaurants and wineries also supported the event.

Las Positas College currently enrolls more than 9,000 students.
