The Pleasanton school district has appointed Pleasanton Middle School vice principal Jill Butler as the interim principal for Harvest Park Middle School effective July 1 — replacing Ken Rocha, who was appointed director of education for the city’s middle and high schools.

“Jill has extensive teaching and curricular experience,” Rocha said in an email announcement Wednesday.

Butler has been a vice principal at Pleasanton Middle since 2013. Prior to that, she served as the Language Arts Department chair from 2000-2013 and was a PMS teacher starting in 1996.

Other roles included being an elementary teacher, which included special education, and Teacher on Special Assignment to help support curriculum and assessment projects in the district.

Butler has her bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and speech communication from Cal State Long Beach and her master’s degree in educational leadership from Cal State East Bay, where she is currently pursing her doctoral degree in educational leadership.

Rocha said he will help transition Butler as she assumes her new position and is “confident she will do an excellent job.”

He added that his new director position is currently funded with one-time dollars and only for the 2015-16 school year.

“While we hope that the position can be funded beyond the 2015-16 school year, there is no way to be certain at this time,” said Rocha.

The interim principal position will preserve flexibility if his new position is not funded after 2015-16, he added.

  1. As the crossing guard for 10 years now working by Harvest Park School, I just want to express my thanks to Mr. Rocha and his staff for his time spent at Harvest Park. I cross many of the students from Harvest Park as well as Walnut Grove and they are a great bunch of kids. The few times there has been a particular problem with a student, it has been dealt with in a professional way. Looking forward to another safe year.
