Local teen receives $4,000 scholarship

One of nine students awarded

A Pleasanton teen was awarded a scholarship from the ValleyCare Auxiliary, which gives scholarships to high school seniors planning to enter the health care field.

Barik Singh, now a Foothill High School graduate, was one of nine students to receive the scholarship -- seven $4,000 scholarships, one $1,000 scholarship and one $500 scholarship were presented at the Auxiliary's annual Appreciation Luncheon on May 11.

Singh received a $4,000 scholarship.

He will be attending UC Santa Barbara majoring in pre-medicine, with the goal of becoming a physician.

Barik has been a junior volunteer at ValleyCare and was selected to participate in the Kaiser Permanente Summer Youth Employment program, where he had the opportunity to shadow an orthopedic surgeon.

Along with receiving an academic letter for academic excellence, Barik has been a member of the Cantabella Childrens Chorus for 12 years.

Other Tri-Valley winners include Augustine Chemparathy (Dougherty Valley High School) Sabrina Downey and Avery Harker (Granada High School), Alyssa Floris, Cassidy Herro and Sarah Partridge (Livermore High School) and Kayla Heffelfinger (Vineyard High School). In addition, De La Salle High School graduate Zachary Kline received an Auxiliary scholarship.
