BART is opening early this morning to serve riders traveling to the Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco.

Service will begin at about 6 a.m., about two hours early, and the early trains will be running on 20-minute intervals, according to BART. Agency representatives said they have also scheduled more long trains for this morning.

The Bay to Breakers race begins on Howard Street between Beale and Main streets, a few blocks from BART’s Embarcadero station, according to the official course map.

BART officials are asking riders from the East Bay to disembark at the Embarcadero station, which is close the start of the race.

BART officials suggest runners buy two one-way tickets to the race because a sweaty roundtrip ticket won’t work in fare gates.

Officials also remind riders that shoes and clothing are required on trains. Cyclists are allowed to bring bikes on the early trains except in the first car and crowded cars.
