The Firehouse Arts Center, located at 4444 Railroad Ave., is set to hold its spring volunteer program orientation from 6:30-7:30 p.m. today..
The volunteer program provides theater ushers for the Firehouse and Amador Theater, as well as gallery volunteers for the Harrington Gallery located at the Firehouse. Each venue presents a wide variety of theater, concert, youth, literary and arts programming.
Tuesday's orientation will include theater usher, ticket taker and gallery attendant positions.
Previous experience is not required, but attendance at an orientation session is mandatory prior to serving. Volunteers must be in high school or above. Minors must have a program waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
Another requirement includes having access to the Internet and email as volunteer shifts are scheduled using an online system. Ushers must be able to stand for several hours and walk minimal distances, and all volunteers should be comfortable speaking with and listening to patrons.
Program coordinator Michele Hartmangruber notes that this is a great service opportunity for high school students to satisfy the service hour component for graduation.
No minimum or maximum number of hours are required.
