Pleasanton Seahawks star at Junior Olympics

Team members earn top-eight finishes, medals

The Pleasanton Seahawks competed at the Junior Olypmics event at the San Ramon Olympic Pool on March 20-22, with dozens of local swimmers posting high placements and taking home medals in their age groups.

Six Seahawks earned Junior Olympic qualifying times just before the meet: Paige Bennett, Eric Kang, Sophia Pedersoli, Ethan Wang, Dominick Wonosaptra and Kevin Yuan.

In the 10 years old and under girls, Sydney Lu was a standout swimmer, placing in six of seven events including first place in the 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly and 100 individual medley. She also finished second in the 200 IM, third in the 100 fly, and sixth in the 200 freestyle.

Also in the division, Christina Tsai received medals in the 100 breast (third), 50 breast (fifth), and the 200 IM (eighth). Aven Lee swam a personal best in the 100 back to place fifth, and Crystal Wang was eighth in the 100 breast.

Alexander Smedley was the top Seahawks swimmer in boys 10 and under, medaling in all seven of his events: second in the 200 IM and 500 free, third in the 100 IM, fourth in the 100 and 200 free and 100 back, and fifth in the 100 breast.

Jordan Lee took third in the 50 fly, fifth in the 200 free and sixth in the 50 free.

In 11-12 girls, Mackenzie Lee earned wins in the 50 free, 50 back, 100 back and 200 back. She also placed seventh in the 100 IM and tied for second in the 100 free along with teammate Nicole Stiles. Stiles also placed third in the 200 free, 500 free and 100 back and was fourth in the 50 back.
