Foothill High senior guard Emily Barrett finished her final season last week with nearly 1,200 career points after becoming the fourth female Falcon in the last 14 years to join the exclusive thousand-point club earlier in the season.
"Emily is an extremely hard worker and fierce competitor," Foothill coach Bruce Funk said. "She tore her Achilles tendon and had surgery in June, and worked extremely hard to rehabilitate and come back and play her senior year."
A four-year varsity player, Barrett notched her 1,000th career point during the Falcons' 60-48 win at Monte Vista High in Danville on Jan. 9.
Barrett ended her Foothill career with 1,184 points after scoring 14 in her final game, the Falcons' playoff loss to the Pittsburg High Pirates on Feb. 24. She also pulled down 12 rebounds in that game to give her nearly 850 rebounds for her career.
The 13th-seeded Falcons (11-16) battled the No. 4 seed Pirates tough in Pittsburg last week in the first round of the North Coast Section Division 1 tournament, even taking a one-point lead late in fourth quarter off back-to-back 3-pointers from Barrett, according to Funk. But the host Pirates (22-5) soon moved ahead for good en route to a 57-54 victory.
Barrett earned spots on the all-league team her sophomore and junior seasons -- the 2014-15 all-league team has yet to be announced. She also stars on Foothill's track and field team, which competes in the spring.
