The California Department of Water Resources notified Zone 7 Water Agency, which supplies treated drinking water to retailers serving Pleasanton residents, and other State Water Contractors that the 2015 allocation is being increased from 15% to 20%.
"As the State Water Project provides over 80% of the water to the Valley, this is great news," said water agency officials.
Last year, Zone 7 only received 5% of its allocation so the 2015 amount of water available for import to the Valley is four times as great as in 2014.
"While this is still well below an average year and not necessarily the final allocation nor the end of the drought, it still represents a significant improvement over 2014," officials said.
During its April 15 board meeting, Zone 7 board directors will consider what conservation measures are appropriate for this summer.
