The Pleasanton Weekly distributed checks totaling $80,940 Thursday to 10 nonprofits that are beneficiaries of the newspaper's 2014 Holiday Fund campaign.
Gina Channell-Allen, publisher of the Pleasanton Weekly, and Jeb Bing, its editor, were joined by Anubha Jain, manager, corporate responsibility at Silicon Valley Community Foundation, in distributing the checks at a luncheon meeting hosted by the Rotary Club of Pleasanton.
"We were especially pleased that the community contributed so generously to the Holiday Fund in a year that was still economically stressful and at a time when the needs of these organizations continued to grow," Channell-Allen said.
The organizations in the first tier of funding each received $12,141. They were Axis Community Health, whose representative was Valerie Jonas; Open Heart Kitchen, Linda McKeever; Pleasanton Partnerships in Education (PPIE) Foundation, Susan Hayes; Valley Humane Society, Phil Vermont, and ValleyCare Health Charitable Foundation, Joyce and Bob Shapiro.
Five organizations in the second tier of funding each received $4,047.00. They were Agape Villages, represented by Jennifer Oxe; Hope Hospice, Victoria Emmons; Tri Valley REACH, Inc., Esther Becker; Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation, Debra Doble, and Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley, represented by Marlene Petersen.
