College district board names new trustee to replace Barbara Mertes

William Macedo, a Chabot College graduate, will fill Livermore post

William Macedo of Livermore has been appointed to the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District board of trustees, taking the seat vacated by Barbara Mertes, who retired in December.

Board members interviewed five candidates before voting unanimously for Macedo, who for the past four years has been a member of the college district's Measure "B" Citizens' Oversight committee.

Macedo, a graduate of Chabot College and Cal State East Bay, has lived in Livermore for more than 40 years.

"I am extremely delighted I was selected and I look forward to working with the other board members," Macedo said after his appointment.

Macedo will be sworn in at the board's regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Las Positas College, 3000 Campus Hill Dr. in Livermore. He will serve on the board until the next election in November 2016.
