Sandia's PR chief moving to U.C. post

Mike Janes has been media's lab contact for 13 years

Mike Janes, the public relations and communications officer at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, is leaving that post tomorrow to become the strategic communications director at the University of California's Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) in Davis.

Janes, who has represented Sandia to the media for nearly 13 years, said he will start his new position at ANR Feb. 2.

In his new post, he will report directly to ANR's vice president with responsibilities for overseeing a variety of functional communications areas. Although located in Davis, the ANR division is not part of UC-Davis.

"It's been an honor and a pleasure working here at Sandia," Janes said. "Though it's a cliché to say it's 'all about the people', it's really true in this case. I'll miss the people and the mission of Sandia but know the lab will continue to do important work in the national interest."
