Ballistic United U12 team wins State Cup

Local boys defeat San Ramon squad in final

The Ballistic United U12 Premier boys soccer team has won the Blue Division State Cup, capping its run with a 4-1 victory over San Ramon Azuri in the final played in Hayward.

Trevor Cheng got Ballistic United on the board midway through the first half during the championship game Dec. 20, heading in a cross from a free kick off the foot of teammate Noah White.

Cheng extended the team's lead to 2-0 with a goal in the final minute of the half.

White notched another assist early in the second half when his cornerkick was headed home by Arnav Patel. White later scored Ballistic United's final goal, blasting in a shot from outside the penalty area.

The three-goal victory in the final ended a State Cup run that saw the Pleasanton team outscore its opponents 12-2 over three matches.

Ballistic United's tightest game came in the quarterfinal against the Danville Mustang Tornadoes.

Following a scoreless first half, White put Ballistic United on the board early in the second, but the Tornadoes would tie the match at 1-1 with four minutes left in regulation. Cheng broke the draw in the second overtime period when he scored on a scramble in the penalty box, propelling his team to the quarterfinal win.

The semifinal proved a bit easier for Ballistic United, which defeated Dublin United Legend 6-0, including five first-half goals.
