Three Oakland women were arrested Nov. 19 for allegedly conspiring to steal more than $2,000 worth of merchandise from the Macy’s Men store at Stoneridge Shopping Center.

According to police, Macy’s loss prevention officers noticed Brenda Arredondo, 20, and Samantha Ceja, 24, quickly grabbing items — with no concern about size or price.

Arredondo and Ceja went to the register and a Macy’s employee offered to ring up their purchases, but the two women allegedly kept requesting that Macy’s employee Jacqueline Contrerasmelgar ring up their purchases.

Contrerasmelgar, 20, came to the register, however loss prevention officers noticed she started putting the items in the bag without scanning them, and then put the transaction on hold, police said.

Authorities allege Arredondo and Ceja left the store with the bags full of unpaid merchandise, and loss prevention officers contacted the women in the parking lot.

Contrerasmelgar was contacted by officers later on.

Police said one of the women admitted that the trio have acted together and successfully used this tactic on previous occasions. Police allege the women would steal the merchandise to sell it online and split the money among the three of them.

Arredondo and Ceja were arrested on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy. Contrerasmelgar was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement.

  1. @”Tom F”: “I have a couple of Friends on the Pleasanton PD. They both disgustingly tell me who’s doing the stealing at the mall 99% of the time.”

Actually, the percentage is closer to 67%. According to the Pleasanton Annual Police Report, Stoneridge Mall thefts are predominately done by females rather than males by almost a 2-to-1 ratio.
