A school resource teacher was struck Monday by a slow-moving vehicle in the crosswalk area near Hearst Elementary's multi-use building, Hearst Principal Elias Muniz said in a notice sent out Monday afternoon.
Lisa Kobb was hit before school in the drop-off area, located on Case Avenue.
She did not appear to have suffered major injuries. The Pleasanton police were called and she was transported to the hospital for treatment observation.
"We are continuing to gather information about the accident this morning in order to determine the cause and determine what, if any, additional safeguards are needed," said Muniz.
He has asked teachers to review pedestrian and bicycle safety rules with their students in class this week.
In addition, he has also asked parents to review some rules for drop-off and pick-up procedures.

* Keep eyes on the road
* Look for pedestrians
* Respect and follow directions of staff members on duty

Surprised this doesnt happen more often. I am at Hart everyday, and the parents drive so bad. Everyone acts like their kid is the only important one in the world. It seems worse in the morning...when those parents are in a hurry to get where they are going. They ignore all signs, and rules. Thank goodness there is a traffic lady there...when she isnt...all hell breaks loose! Thanks to Pleasanton PD for being out there for a week...it improved, but ..please come back soon...those parents are picking up their bad behavior again.

I have been crossing pedestrians on Valley Ave. near Harvest Park now for 9 yrs. and your comment, Shelley, is so true. Drivers get so inpatient and start tooting their horns etc. because everyone is in a hurry. The PPD cannot be everywhere all the time but when they are there, they are constantly stopping cars. The drivers need to realize that the law says they must wait for everyone to clear the crosswalk before proceeding. I have been almost hit myself by drivers who drive right on after children pass them forgetting that I am still there needing to get back to the curb. Our children are precious and we want them to get to and from school safely.

Don, I appreciate your help at the crosswalk and I for one always try to be patient until all pedestrians have cleared the crosswalk. But I'm not perfect. Sorry, and again, thanks for being there for the kids. I'll try to do better.

Maybe installing cameras at school crosswalks and recording driver behavior would improve safety. The police can't be everywhere, but if drivers are aware that they're being monitored, motivation to obey laws and slow down around pedestrian's would surely improve. They seem to be minding their manners when a live officer is present! I live a block from a school and it's chaos in the morning...people speeding and driving impatiently. It's really not worth the aggravation...or worse, in the case of this article.

Are you kidding me? The police do not even abide by the crosswalk laws. Is everyone aware that no one can be in the crosswalk area period before you can turn?
Just because no one is in front of your car doesn't mean you can turn or proceed.
