The Pleasanton school board has scheduled a special closed-door board meeting tonight when it will discuss with legal counsel and possibly take action on the lawsuit filed by former Walnut Grove principal Jon Vranesh against the Pleasanton school district.

The former principal filed a lawsuit Oct. 17, but has not yet specified the amount of monetary damages sought.

Vranesh, who was placed on administrative leave in October 2013 for allegedly creating a “hostile work environment” at the school site, has asked for “economic and non-economic damages according to proof, reinstatement to his position with back pay, and punitive damages against the individual defendants … according to proof,” and attorneys’ fees.

Also on Wednesday’s agenda is the “consideration of the appointment, employment, evaluation of performance, discipline/release, or dismissal of a public employee”. However, the name of the employee was not released.

The public can comment on agenda items at the opening ceremony beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the district’s boardrooms, 4665 Bernal Avenue.

  1. I could be wrong…but it’s worth checking. When it says “public comments” during a close session they are meaning only members of the public that are being discussed about in the matters in the close session can speak. IE: JV or his representative. I don’t believe the average parent, teacher, etc can speak like thy can in a regular public board meeting. If I am wrong please just remove my post to avoid confusion.

  2. @Wondering – I believe anyone can make a public comment BEFORE the board goes into closed session. You may recall that last year, the board met in closed session to decide what to do with Jon Vranesh. So many people lined up to speak publicly on JV’s behalf, Jeff Bowser told them they’d only have 1 minute to speak instead of the usual 3. They do need to keep their comments focused on the closed session agenda item(s).

  3. Wow. I was lied to by a board member. Who told me only people directly involved in “closed session” matter could speak during the public comments.

  4. @Wondering – I guess it depends on which Board member you ask… At PUSD, the rules change all the time. Policies? We don’t need no stinkin’ policies!!

  5. The Supt and Deputy Supt will have to hire their own lawyers to defend themselves since they were individually sued along with PUSD. Maybe they all sat around figuring out who of the board and the staff would be left with anything like a house or anything or end up living in their cars because of the millions that will have to be spent on lawyers to defend a public agency who should know better accusing a principal of having a developmental disability, “Asperger,” placing him in a segregated place isolated from his peers and shunning him.

The entire cabinet needs to go. Elect Miller and Wright.
