Pleasanton police arrested Derrick Fields, 40, a Dublin resident, in the Four Points Sheraton Hotel courtyard Saturday on suspicion of possession of stolen property, thefts with prior convictions, and delaying or obstructing an officer.

Police started looking for Fields shortly after 1 p.m. Friday after a woman said she saw a man smashed the driver’s side window her car parked at 5959 Coronado Lane, stealing her purse and walking away.

She told police that she yelled at the man to drop the purse, but he kept running and she lost sight of him as he headed toward West Las Positas Blvd.

On Saturday, officers spotted a man answering the description of the Coronado Lane car theft and carrying a purse. He fled, and police pursued him to the Sheraton Hotel courtyard, where they made the arrest.

Besides the stolen purse, police also found material taken Feb. 19 in a Fremont car burglary.

Fields was booked at Santa Rita Jail.
